Purchase: I purchased the Dakota Model 420 Penning Saddle from horsesaddleshop.com after looking around for a inexpensive saddle for my husband. I was not expecting a high quality saddle for $650.00 (price included free shipping).
I was very impressed when the saddle arrived within a few days. I was even more impressed with the quality. I have very happily owned a Billy Cook Saddle(Sulphur,OK) and the Dakota is equal in quality yet 1/2 the price.
Needless to say, my husband keeps asking me when I am going to let him have his saddle back. I will be a repeat customer.
Likes: The high quality leather is way beyond what I would expect from a $650.00 saddle. The seat is very comfortable and the fenders are well built. The saddle fits my horses well and the seat design makes riding out a green horse very comfortable.
The saddle came with a high quality rear cinch and front leathers.
After 2 years of hard riding on green colts, the saddle still looks new.
Dislikes: I had to change out the wide, bulky stirrups. They were very uncomfortable and hard to keep on your feet.
* I would not recommend the bear trap design for those of you who want a saddle for long day rides.
Quality: The leather is superior, the stitching is solid, and the fleece has held up very well.
Summary: Bottom Line is I am very impressed with Dakota Saddlery's ability to make a high quality saddle at a low retail price. I was equally satisfied with the service I received from horsesaddleshop.com.
