Purchase: My favorite tack store, Balsam Quarter in Asheville, NC, has put together some great saddle packages, that include the saddle, stirrup leathers, stirrups, girth in your choice of size, and one pad, all for a decent price. The total package including tax was $394.96.
Likes: I love the feel of the synthetic. It helps my grip and seat in the saddle more than traditional leather. I've been working particularly hard on balanced, centered riding, and this saddle is so much better than what I'd been using on my almost 5 year old gelding. He is still working on smooth stops, and the new saddle has given me more control in my position so when he stops on a dime, I'm not thrown over his head. I have much better contact through leg aids with this saddle. I also appreciate how easy it is to keep clean; I don't have to spend hours with oils and soaps, I can pretty much just brush it off, and occasionally use a damp cloth on it.
Dislikes: The material is stiff and it takes a very long time to break in. There is almost no adjusting the leathers, so if I want to put up another rider, it's a chore to get the length right. And while it is easy to clean, it shows dirt immediately, so I wouldn't use this saddle in the show ring because even small fingerprints would be obvious.
Quality: This saddle is solidly constructed. It does not have a removable tree, so if it breaks I am not sure what else to do with it but send it back to the manufacturer; that could be costly and time consuming. However with its sturdy construction I wouldn't expect it to need that kind of repair. I consider this saddle to be of very high quality and I have already recommended it to friends.
Summary: The saddle is comfortable for everyday training and general riding. The fit (a 17.5) is great for a taller person. The material allows for solid feel through the seat and good leg contact.
