Billy Shaw Barrel Saddle - Equi-Fit
Barrel Saddles

Manufacturer: Rider's Choice
Model: Billy Shaw Barrel Saddle - Equi-Fit
Category: Barrel Saddles

Purchase: I purchased the saddle on Ebay from the manufacturer. I payed $475.00 w/ shipping.

Likes: NOTHING

Dislikes: The saddle is of such poor quality and craftsmanship I returned it. The leather was thin and hard. The sewing was uneven and poor. The leather was dented, scratched, and a several spots appeared to have rotted prior to being processed. The fender leathers were cut and sewn in extremely different locations making the saddle appear patchwork pieced together. The fleece underneath was cheap. The saddle had several scars and large (visible) needle holes in the leather on the skirt.

Quality: I will let the manufacture (this is his reply to my request to return the saddle cut & pasted from my email): You seem to value an honest opinion since you have shared yours so please allow me to do the same. - If you will take the time to really look over the pictures you will see those exact things. On the picture of the right side of the saddle you can clearly see the needle holes near the back rigging that you are speaking of. This is a product of the type of machine that we use to sew the saddle that punches a hole before it threads the hole. The picture from the front of the saddle clearly shows that the binding on the front of the saddle is dented and off color a bit where the saddle has be sat on its nose. Plus it is also not even. You can see the tree on the left hand side of the picture where the binding was cut too short. I can also see in the photo taken from the rear that the black sides of the swells on front are uneven, one being higher than the other. I picked these things out to say that NO SADDLE is perfect. All are handmade and I can stand and look at any saddle and pick it apart in a matter of minutes. We do not give refunds on saddles that look and are built just like the hundreds of other saddles that people get and love and rave about. If we have 100 people that rave about the saddle and 1 that picks it apart because they EXPECTED a three thousand dollar saddle we don't feel that is our fault. You can return the saddle and we will inspect it. If it is found to be built in a fashion that is NOT up to par with all the other saddles in stock we will offer the full refund. But if the saddle is found to be normal (handmade and not perfect) the refund policy listed in the auction will be given. If you get the same saddle, for the same price, with the same return policy as the thousands that love their saddles how can you be getting screwed.

Summary: This saddle is not worth $50.00 let alone the almost $500.00 that I payed. I have owned over 15 saddles of various manufactures and price ranges. Even the economy saddles that I have purchased prior were of decent quality. This saddle is a buyers beware with the manufacture stating that "NO SADDLE" is perfect to justify his ability for putting out a poor quality saddle.
