Stormshield VTEK Bellyband Turn Out
Model: Stormshield VTEK Bellyband Turn Out
Purchase: I bought 3 of these heavyweight blankets, one for my thoroughbred, one for my quarter horse and one for my paint. I bought them out of the Schneiders Catalog for approximately $100 each (on sale).
Likes: I was very impressed how quickly the blankets were shipped out, I received them about 3-4 days after I placed the order (with standard shipping). I like that the price seemed to be quite fair. When I was purchasing the blankets, I liked the fact they had a bellyband, and the company claimed they were rip-stop, breathable, waterproof, windproof, durable, were designed for wide temperatures swings etc.
Dislikes: What I didn't like about these units is within the first week of having this supposedly rip-stop blanket on my horses, it got its first of many rips. After my horses wore the blankets for 3 months, all of them had to be repaired at least 3-4 times per blanket. This completely took me off guard because Ive had my horses for years, bought them many different brands, and have NEVER had so many rips in any of the blankets. Another thing I was very disappointed with is the fact that these blankets made my horses sweat like crazy! None of my horses have ever sweated under a blanket before.
Quality: The blanket seemed to be constructed quite well at first glance, but after being worn, stitching started coming out and many large rips formed. The company boasts that the blankets can be adjusted around the neck, but any way I tried to adjust the blanket, it left a large space open, where wind/rain/snow could get right under the blanket and directly onto the horses chest. The hardware on the blanket was not up to a very good standard either. On one of the blankets one of the t-shaped hooks for the bellyband actually broke!! And I swear, my horses really aren't hard on blankets!
Summary: The bottom line is, I would never recommend this blanket to anyone for any horse. I called the company and complained about it (they said it has a one year warranty) and they told me I could send it back with a $30 processing fee and they would either fix it or replace it -- why would I want that blanket back, or get a new one...its not a good blanket! Plus, why is there a "processing fee" isn't that what the "warranty" is supposed to cover? The price was good, but for all the hassle it has caused me, and the sweaty/wet horses I now have to worry about, its not worth it.
