Purchase: I had borrowed my coaches clippers to trim my horses face (she looks like a goat in the early spring, with her long chin whiskers, and that's not the look I'm going for in a hunter show). Of course when I gave them back to my coach, I noticed a few small areas that needed to be touched up. Instead of borrowing her clippers again, I bought a Horse Shave "Win by a Nose" razor from Victoria Feeds - The Horse & Hound in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. I had never used this product before, but figured I'd give it a try. It was around $3.00 Cdn, with taxes.

Likes: The razor is great for little touch-up jobs, and for horses who dislike clippers (mine doesn't care). It's also small enough to fit into a grooming box or ringside tote for last minute trims without taking up a lot of room. The blade is incredibly sharp so you only have to use a TINY bit of pressure to shave.

Dislikes: The blade is incredibly sharp. For those who have never used this blade before, and for a horses sensitive areas (tip of the nose, for example) you'd have to be extremely careful about the amount of pressure you exert on the blade. I haven't had a problem with it, but I can definitely see how you could accidentally nick the skin. I find the size of the razor fits into my hand, but my boyfriend (who has big hands) had a harder time holding it comfortably. He found it a little awkward and said he'd prefer a regular disposable razor (the kind you buy at a drugstore). The blade is wrapped in a thin piece of cardboard for protection. I kind of wish it came in a small plastic case as the cardboard won't last long in a tack box with things getting moved around a lot - plastic would be safer.

Quality: A small (purple) plastic handle holds the blade. Instructions are included on the angle of which to hold it to shave properly.

Summary: A handy little razor for quick touch-ups, though it could use a few small improvements. I don't know if I'd get this razor again until the improvements were made though. I like the plastic covering on standard disposable razors (instead of flimsy cardboard) and the handle would be a bit easier to grip. In a pinch though, this would work.
