Purchase: I purchased the Hunter/Jumper 1/2 pad mad by Supracor because my horse had sore withers and I liked how the pad was designed to support the saddle at the front. It has extra stiffners in the front part. I purchased it through Dover Saddlery for about $200. The manufactures clain it is breathable and prevents slippage.
Likes: I liked the design of honeycombs which while light provides excellent protection and weight distribution.
Dislikes: The seam down the center pinches and rubs my horse's withers raw. The pad works well with horses with average to low withers but isn't so good for high withered horses. I purchased a cover ($68)thatwas advertised to be sheepskin with a wool base and cotten top. Turned out to be cotton on the top, TRIMMED in sheep skin and the bottem was made of some very rough fabric which looked like it would rub even worse and had a seam along the spine. I returned it.
Quality: The pad itself is well contructed out of soft plastic honeycomb shaped cells. It has a seam along the spine and is finished around the edges. It comes in regular and long to accomodate different sized saddles. The cover looks cheaply made and the surface touching the horse is very rough. The one nice thing about the cover is that is has a zipper instead of velcro to close the pocket the pad goes into.
Summary: This pad is worth the money if it doesn't rub the horse's withers. You won't know that until you try it though and then you are stuck with a pad you can't use. The cover is not worth the money at all.
