Purchase: This past spring I visited with the very nice people at Cactus Saddlery in Greenville, Tx. Scott personally let me sit is the saddles, even sat in a saddle tree. I explained how I needed a certain feel and support on a saddle since I had broken my back. (not from riding) The barrel tree seemed to fit me best. Then we discussed tooling and how it would look. Cost $1300.
Likes: Beautiful workmanship. Very comfortable seat. Pretty enough to show on local level.
Dislikes: There is nothing I do not like about this beautiful saddle. My mare is hard to fit and the gullet is just a bit wide for her. The gullet was measured before making the saddle, but this horse is just one of those hard to fit horses. This in no way reflects on the quality of the saddle as I still ride it with a little bit of extra padding on the withers. My horse trainer says he can fix that problem by me giving this saddle to him.
Quality: This custom saddle show excellent construction and attention to detail. Quality, quality, quality.
Summary: I would definitely recommend Cactus saddles to anyone who wants a good saddle. I cannot understand how people are willing to spend $300 to buy cheap made in India saddles and risk injury and expensive hospital bills than to spend about at least $1000 on a saddle that will not fall apart under normal use.
