Purchase: I was working a friends horse, who is trained in Parelli, and these reins were attached to his bridle.
Looking at the Parelli website, I see the Horseman's Reins are worth $55.20 USD (without taxes or shipping).
Likes: The reins / rope is easy on the hands. The horse I was riding is a BIG quarter horse, who pulls like a freight train.
The Parelli Horseman's reins were soft enough that blisters are unlikely in the event of the reins getting pulled through your hands.
You can also untie this rein so that it becomes a lead or longe line. It would be handy for out on the trail when you can only carry a limited amount of gear.
Dislikes: The reins are soft on my hands, but they're so bulky that it was hard to get a good grip - especially on a puller. I had a tight enough grip to keep them from getting pulled through my hands, that after only a short ride, my hands were getting cramped.
I also don't like the idea of having a "tail" of rope left over (when you tie it into reins) because this adds even more bulk in your hands. I have heard of some people looping the tail through their belt loop, so they don't have an extra piece of rope to hold, but this is extremely dangerous and I DO NOT recommend ANYONE try this.
Quality: High quality yachting braided rope with heavy duty snaps.
Summary: An okay set of reins - if you're riding a calm, well-mannered horse. For a horse that pulls, or needs more training under saddle, I wouldn't recommend them.
You're better off finding a decent set of leather reins and wearing gloves. These would afford you better grip, and in turn, better control.
