Purchase: The horse I was working for a friend had the Horseman's Reins on his bridle, and these - the Parelli Rein Leathers.
At the Parelli website, and current when this review was written, these are $40.25 USD (without tax or shipping).
They Rein Leathers are heavy pieces of leather that attach to the bit rings, then the reins attach to the leathers.
Likes: The leather is heavy duty and looks nice.
Dislikes: Having to pay over $50 (with tax and shipping) for two small pieces of leather would bother me - especially when there are "knock-offs" which are much cheaper.
I find that with expensive products, it's sometimes better to buy a cheaper version first (if available) and try it out, before committing to the more expensive one. That way if they don't work out how you thought they would, it's not such a big loss.
Quality: Heavy duty leathers stamped with the Parelli logo, and available in a variety of different colours to suit the rest of your tack.
Summary: From the Parelli website, these are supposed to maximize feel and promote quick release for teaching the horse a soft feel.
These are designed to be used with the Parelli Horseman's Reins (which are quite heavy themselves), though I don't think they offer much benefit. The reins are heavy enough, and bulky enough, to pretty much diminish any feel you should have.. and the added weight of the rein leathers only adds to that problem.
I found these to be quite useless in my situation, and I'm glad it wasn't me who bought them.
