Purchase: I got this in the clearance section of Smartpak's retail store in Natick, MA. Don't recall exact price or original retail, I think about $60.00 on clearance.

Likes: These are winter boots and they are indeed very warm. I've ridden in below-freezing temperatures with just 1 pair of thin socks and my feet stay warm. Boots are also water-proofed. The soles are very comfortable for walking around.

Dislikes: Unfortunately, the quality of the materials do not make up for the poor design. The boots do not fit well for riding purposes. The tops of the boots are too narrow. Unless you have chicken legs (I think my ankles/lower legs are average width), most people will have some difficulty zipping them up, especially during the breaking-in period. It took me a while to break in these boots until the tops stopped chafing my legs when fully zipped. This is especially a problem if you are layering socks or wear winter breeches. When I wear my poly-fleece breeches, I can only zip up the boots half-way. Further, the shape of the foot is not conducive for riding. For some reason, the topside of the foot part has a tendency to get caught in the stirrups. I've never experienced this with other paddock/jodhpurs boots. That can be very dangerous, especially in a fall.

Quality: It is well constructed- good quality leather, sturdy zippers.

Summary: These boots may be fine as muck boots, but I do not recommend them for riding because of the stirrups issue. I've pretty much relegated these to barn chores, such as turning horses in/out when it's muddy. Definitely do not pay full retail price for these if you decide to buy them.
