Purchase: I was hopeful but skeptical when I bought this pad. I bought it on their website.
I paid about $290.00 plus shipping, which took about a week from east to west coast.
I ordered mine in english toast with the western girth rigging.
Likes: Extremely comfortable and I have found it to be a very secure seat in all kinds of situations. It's not easy to lose your balance, as you stick to it like velcro.
I got mine with a western girth system which works very well, but it is nylon webbing and lately I have been thinking of changing it to leather for the horses comfort:)
I always use a thin navajo blanket
underneath just to keep it clean.
The company says it is washable which I have done twice according to their instructions and it came out great.
The foam insert is the perfect thickness but if it wears out I am going to put memory foam in it!
I also ride in this with my son on the back and we both fit comfortably.
I like to clip my water bottle holder on the grab strap for hot days or long rides.
Dislikes: The price kept me from buying this sooner.
Once I rode in it I was sure it was not a mistake. I have ridden in it for a year and a half. No real big complaints.
It can be very difficult to mount from the ground. (Just like any bareback pad) It has a mounting strap but I am not comfortable with the idea of using it. I tried to put peacock stirrups on it once but it just didn't feel right.
Quality: I love the quality of the leather and the workmanship is beautiful. The saddle strings are excessively long, some people may want to trim them. Also they were tied in a knot to hold them on so I simply untied them and slit the leather to make the traditional blood knot.
Summary: To me it is More comfortable than ANY other pad or saddle. (My saddle is a treeless Bob Marshall)
I think this might be really useful for therapeutic riding as I find not only does it keep you secure but your muscles get a comfortable workout and it even helps me get a warm gentle massage & some relief from fibromyalgia.
Horse seems to like it, and he really lets you know when he is uncomfortable with something!
We both stay nice and warm in the winter!
