Purchase: My husband made me some jump standards and needed some jump cups to go with them.
He picked up the Silverline Equipment (by Canadian Saddlery) metal jump cups at Foxhunter Tack Shop in Stouffville, Ontario, Canada.
They were $8.95 Cdn for a pair, without taxes. These included 2 pins.
Likes: They seem well made, and fit onto regular 4x4s. There are also two adjustment holes where you put the pin through, and one drainage hole in the cup (for those rainy days - see note about weather below).
Dislikes: Some people may not like metal jump cups and will opt for safety, or plastic, cups instead however the hubby didn't know better so I appreciate his effort!
The cup is not reversible for planks (it does not have a flat side), so for those with plank jumps, you would need different cups.
Quality: Black painted steel cups with a standard AHSA design. Each pair comes with 2 metal pins (these are just small metal rods with a nut welded on).
There are 3 welds to hold the cup onto the base of the unit; 2 on the bottom, one on the top.
There are no sharp edges and the paint job is good (no exposed metal). Since my jumps are used outside, after time these cups will start to show the effects of the elements (we're in the great Canadian north - snow, rain, sometimes more snow, sun, more rain.. snow) but I'm sure they'll do a great job for now.
Summary: An okay jump cup, made even better by hubby's effort (admittedly, not an "english horseman"!).
These will do the job for now, and at a decent price, but once they wear out I'll replace them with plastic cups.
