Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Laser
Model: 747
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I bought this on eBay and paid around $1K.

Likes: It has gel "flocking" so it never needs re-flocking. I tried many different saddles to fit my Friesian and they either didn't fit him or didn't fit me. Mostly didn't fit him. They rocked (not in a good way) or the XW were too narrow. This saddle, however, is adjustable so every time a horse changes shape I don't have to have it re-stuffed. It fits 4(!) of my wide-load and not so wide horses beautifully. It is built for flat-back horses, which is perfect for most of my horses. The gullet is nice and wide, and the panels are wide and flat thereby spreading the rider's weight over a broad area. My horses love it. The twist is not too narrow for my taste but when the saddle is adjusted at its widest, the twist is too wide for me. I stumbled on the Laser and it is absolutely wonderful. The quality of the leather is very nice and the seat is flat and well-padded. This is the second one I bought. The first one I sold because it had a seat deeper than what I like. The one I have now is more open. The person I sold the other one to loves the seat for the same reason I didn't like it. Every time I have had to go through the nightmare of finding a saddle to fit a horse, it's been very tedious. Seems that all my horses need wide saddles and there are limited choices.

Dislikes: I think Jeremy Beale, its designer, has achieved perfection. There are other models he makes but this is the only one I have tried. I don't need to try any others.

Quality: It is very well designed, comfortable for horse and rider. The leather is of very nice quality and the unique "flocking" conforms well to the horse's back. Think "sneakers" for the horse's back.

Summary: It's great for ring work, showing or a couple of hours in the saddle on a trail ride. All in all I think it's outstanding and I can't imagine ever wanting to part with it.
