Purchase: The Aigle Ecuyers were my first pair of tall riding boots. I bought them years ago for just over $100 Cdn from Twice Around Tack (who used to be in Sunderland, Ontario, Canada).
Likes: These are the cream of the crop for synthetic boots. They really are well put together and nice looking (as far as synthetics go).
I was able to do stable chores with them, get on a horse and school, then wipe them off and show. There was no need to oil or condition them which saved a bit of time.
Dislikes: The ankle flexibility - or lack thereof. My ankles are more on the stiff side anyway, regardless of what "torturous" exercises my coach devised, and these boots didn't allow my heel to drop very much..
I was constantly fighting to keep my heels down and losing the battle quick!
Quality: A synthetic riding boot with full grain leather cuff and Cambrelle on foam sweat-resistant lining. Has a firm arch support, and is hard wearing and heat insulating.
Summary: A decent boot if you'd prefer synthetics, but I'd recommend people save up a little extra to get a pair of tall leather boots, or buy good quality used ones.
The issue of ankle flexibility alone should be enough to deter people, as keeping your heels low is a basic part of riding - no matter what discipline.
