Purchase: This was bought from an agent, at present they are not available thru saddlers, the cost was enormous - close to 1,700 pounds!! My mare has had a back problem and just didn't go forward in a traditional fixed tree saddle. After borrowing one for a month and finding her movement vastly improved I sold 2 other saddles (didn't even come close!) and ordered one......
Likes: I like it because it looks like a traditional saddle and not like some of these Iberian shaped types that are flooding the market, which are fine if all you do is hack but not much good for competition work. Its comfortable and you can feel your horses back muscles moving underneath you - a weird feeling to start with but you soon feel if there is a problem.
Dislikes: The Price!!!! This saddle does all it says on the packet, and horses definitely go much better in them. However, my biggest dislike is the finish. For this amount of money it should be beautifully finished and bound and rolled all round - its not - raw edges and not even the velcro (for the add on knee and thigh rolls etc) is put on sympathetically. I was really disappointed. Having seen my friend's new Bates saddle (1,300 pds) which is stunning - I felt very cheated. The solution saddle is a 250.00 pound saddle max, and the manufacturers are being incredibly greedy.
Quality: As before, the construction is basically foam panels instead of wood or metal, so you can bend the saddle in all directions with ease. The quality of leather is middling, not even cut particularly carefully, and is left raw edged. The velcro to hold the add-ons is not shaped to fit these items so they do not fit snuggly especially the knee rolls which stick out top and bottom. The whole look of the saddle is of cheapness, and when you have paid this amount of hard earned cash, you really want something that looks the part. This saddle does not fit the bill - although it does do the job for the horse.
Summary: The bottom line is that it is too expensive for what it is - yes, my horse has improved and is happier through her back with this saddle - but - my main complaint is just the finish, for this huge amount of money it is just not good enough! Solution Saddles I hope you read this and take note! The idea is brilliant and works but I would never buy another (dressage would be nice, but....)they do need to pull their socks up and deliver a quality item.
