Purchase: I'm currently training the neighbors horse english, but he'd eventually like to ride her western.
As a break from our regular training sessions right now, I put the western saddle on her and putter around to do something different.
He bought the Weaver Neoprene Straight Smart Cinch from Victoria Feeds - The Horse & Hound in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. I think he paid around $40.00 Cdn without taxes.
Likes: I love the grip this cinch has. Especially riding a green horse, I need to be sure that the saddle will stay put regardless of what she throws at me. And ditto for the neighbor when he does eventually ride her (he's currently an inexperienced rider who is taking lessons on bombproof horses while I'm training his).
I also like that you can peel the neoprene part of the girth off the backing (where the buckles are set) and throw the girth into the wash.
Dislikes: The patented Roll Snug cinch buckle.. the thing that makes this cinch Smart made me feel stupid, at least for a few minutes.
Being more of an english rider, this cinch was recommended to us by the tack store as being a great product. What I didn't realize however, was that it didn't come with instructions! It took a few minutes of fiddling, as there's an extra roller buckle on one side, but once I got it fitted properly, I find the system to be pretty good.
Quality: The straight cinch is made from nylon and neoprene with a patented Roll Snug cinch buckle. The neoprene is easy to clean, withstands the elements and moves with the horse. The webbing detaches from the neoprene for easy cleaning. There's a nylon off billet holder and the buckles and dees are stainless steel.
Summary: A really good cinch for what we think is a decent price. Instructions should come on the package though - it truly is a great cinch once it's done up properly but they shouldn't assume that everyone knows how.
