Purchase: Being a vegetarian and going to horse shows is a tricky thing. Instead of standing in line for an hour to ask what kind of oil something is fried in, and avoiding the mystery meat, we pack our own meals.
The Koolatron P75 Kool Kaddy is an awesome cooler which is good for the tack room (as a mini-fridge - yes it's that roomy!) and excellent for horse shows.
We got it from Costco in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada for around $150 Cdn without taxes.
Likes: It has kept our food cool throughout some of the hottest horse show days I can remember!
We can pack tons into this cooler and still have room. Juice boxes, water bottles, veggies and dips, sandwiches, fruit -- enough to feed a small army.
It's got a plug that goes into your vehicles cigarette lighter socket for when you're on the road (or you can use an auxiliary battery). When the cooler is at home, you can use the regular plug (which comes with it).
Dislikes: Since this unit uses no ice, to cool it down initially you need to plug it in overnight. You also have to make sure that whatever foods or drinks you put in are pre-chilled.
Quality: Thermoelectric cooler. Uses no ice. Cools 45 - 40 degrees Fahrenheit below the ambient temperature. Internal shelf can be used as a ledge or divider (depending on whether the cooler sits vertically or horizontally). Brushless motor and internal air circulator. 36 quart capacity. 100% CFC and HFC free. Uses no liquids or gases.
Summary: This cooler is truly the cream of the crop. I recommend it to anyone who wants to pack their own food to horse shows, regardless of if they're a vegetarian or not.
And if you don't have enough room for a full-sized fridge in the barn (for boarders drinks or even horse medications) this unit would be perfect and space-saving, too.
