Purchase: I do a fair amount of riding and training in the winter (without an indoor arena or heated facilities - "brrr") so keeping warm is important. I've gotten the layering down for everything except my hands - they always seem to get cold no matter what I do. I saw the SSG Deer Suede Western / Roping Gloves (#4650) and thought they looked tough enough to handle the elements. They are around $40.00 Cdn without taxes (at various Canadian tack stores) and for that price, I had high expectations.

Likes: These gloves are well made with the quality one would expect from SSG. The size 7 Deer Suedes I got originally fit a little tighter than the size 7 SSG All Weathers I also use, but leather does stretch and these gloves fit, well... like a glove after only a few wears. They've got reinforced rein grip areas which is important to me since I'm hard on my gloves - I work with a lot of greenies. The inside of these gloves is pile lined and very warm. I also like the adjustable wrist straps - you can tighten the gloves if need be.

Dislikes: I wish these came with an extended cuff because they don't stay tucked into the sleeves of my coat very well. When the wind starts to howl, I get quite the draft which freezes my exposed wrists. These gloves, while warm, are too bulky to do little tasks like fastening or unfastening nosebands and throat latches. I have to take the gloves off for a minute to two. It's not a huge deal - it just makes me work quicker to put them back on again!

Quality: Pile lined soft split deerskin glove. Currently available in deep chocolate brown in (unisex) sizes 6 - 10.

Summary: I'm a big fan of SSG gloves - they're all I use and recommend. Their quality and product range are unbeatable. I was a little skeptical of paying over $40.00 for a pair of gloves at first but these are worth it.
