Purchase: I bought this figure 8 bridle (without reins) on ebay brand new for just under $200. I couldn't pass up this deal as these french made bridles run $300 and up without the reins. I also wanted a nice bridle for my young filly to grow into. The bridle I purchased is a size 2 which is Horse Size.
Likes: I have their open front boots and loved them so much I bid on the auction for this headstall. I have to say, I love this french leather!!!! My bridle is lined with soft soft soft calfskin over the poll and on the figure 8 noseband. Easily darkens with one or two oilings. Love the raised fancy stitching and the beautiful simple buckles.
Dislikes: Like many high end bridles ie Edgewood and Hadfield, the headstalls and parts are pricey. The reins are sold separately as with other high end bridles, but anyone has to expect this for good quality leather. I have only had this gorgeous bridle for a few weeks now, so I cannot say how well they hold up after 5 or 10 years. I plan to find out though!!!
Quality: This leather is buttery soft, silky to touch and needs little breaking in. Beautiful simple rounded stainless steel buckles, 1/2 inch cheek pieces. The fancy stitching is tight and beautiful. If you shop around, you can get other nosebands, reins and martingales to match and interchange with this bridle. I could go on and on. CWD is known for their superior quality and craftsmanship; their boots and saddles are top of the line and are used by many international jumper riders.
Summary: Despite the price range, I plan on collecting the other parts ie reins, and different nosebands one by one. All I can say is CWD has superior quality items. Lovely SOFT French leather. Love the buckles. Do your research and you will see. Once you have seen their saddles, boots, and tack, you'll have to buy CWD for your horse!
