Purchase: Our local horse club runs a series of gymkhanas (horse games) each year. They used to give out ribbons for class winners but recently switched over to prizes instead. For kids classes we give out a prize for the first place winner and than every other young entrant gets a little bag of treats. This keeps the kids happy and gives something their good ponies can munch on afterwards! Victoria Feeds - The Horse & Hound in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada sells 10kg bags of these treats for around $20.00 Cdn.

Likes: These little treats are a nice size for bigger horses but are also perfect for smaller equines, too! I don't know what they taste like (and I wouldn't recommend anyone eat them) but they smell great. All of the horses who have "won" these treats at our gymkhanas - even the finicky ones - seem to love them. I bought a bag for our own horses to nibble on and I also use them as a training reward (they fit nicely into the little treat pouch that goes around my waist when training).

Dislikes: I don't know if these come in smaller bags than 10kg but it would be nice if they did.

Quality: Little pellets of apple pomace, barley, wheat, wheat shorts, molasses, soy flour and flavour. The 10kg size of these treats come in a paper sack with a stitched top and plastic carrying handle. Even after these bags have been handled and transported, I found hardly any breakdown of the actual product (and our horses don't find the treats too hard to chew).

Summary: To give out as prizes, our horse club buys those little half-sized zippered plastic bags (like Ziploc ones). We put approximately 1 cup of treats into each bag, along with a little congratulatory note card. The kids get a kick out of them, and so do their mounts!
