Purchase: I've been toying around with the idea of riding my mare western every now and then and was looking for a fairly inexpensive headstall. I have a western saddle to use for her, but didn't have a small enough headstall (the other one we have fits our other horse, a monster of a Belgian / QH).
Victoria Feeds - The Horse & Hound in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada had the Reinsman Browband Headstall in stock for around $45.00 Cdn without taxes.
Likes: I know several other people with Reinsman products and they seem excellent. This simple browband headstall is gorgeous and I liked it from the moment I took it off the store hanger.
I was a little skeptical about how the bit ends were secured (with ties) but they haven't loosened off with use - they've remained tight like they should be.
The leather was soft and evenly coloured off the rack. The floral design on the browband and cheek pieces is beautiful.
Dislikes: I'm more of an english rider and am used to reins coming with whatever bridle I buy. It was weird having to buy a separate set of reins to go with this headstall, but I guess having to do so, I was able to pick exactly what type of rein I wanted.
Quality: 3/4" browband headstall. Double buckle cheek adjustments (with silver buckle plates) and throat latch. Ties at bit ends, floral design on browband and cheek pieces. Rosewood colour (which is a beautiful reddish brown).
Summary: This bridle is inexpensive enough for pleasure riding, but gorgeous enough for the show ring. It's not one of those bold, silver-beaded, laced and horse-hair tasseled show headstalls but its look is just as stunning.
I wish I could give this a 6, but since it's not available, a 5 will have to do.
