Model: Western Cordura Saddle (View all Western Cordura Saddle reviews)
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle at a tack store and paid about $300 about 13 years ago.
Likes: This is the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden. It is also very lightweight and durable. I've ridden thousands of miles in it in all kinds of weather and on different horses. Before buying this saddle, I rode bareback everywhere because all other saddles were too uncomfortable and heavy. After seeing my saddle, many of my riding friends bought Bighorn cordura saddles and use them exclusively.
Dislikes: The only thing that I really dislike about this saddle is that after a season of hard use, a two- to three-inch white hair spot appears on either side of the horse right under the latigo/billet rings on either side of the horse. It is a very distinctive mark, and it shows up on about half of the dark colored horses that I know that use a Bighorn cordura saddle. I have never seen white marks in that location from any other saddle. I think that the leather patch under the latigo/billet ring warps with use and that wad makes a pressure spot, even through a good-quality, thick saddle pad.
Quality: Other than the latigo/billet ring white spot problem, the saddle holds up very well and is comfortable. After many years of use, the fenders start to wear a little, but they can be easily replaced.
Summary: This is the only saddle I ever want to use. It fits right and is instantly soft and comfortable, no breaking in period. It is light weight enough that I have no trouble putting it on my tallest horse. It is perfect for trail riding.
Usefulness Rating: 4.49153 out of 5.
