Purchase: Our senior mare had increasingly severe rubs on the front of her fetlocks each winter when the ground froze, and this year they turned into raw sores. I bought her Bed Sore Boots (one size)from Valley Vet for $22.95.
Likes: The boots are thick fleece on the inside and soft neoprene on the outside, providing cushioning for her fetlocks, while flexing easily as she moves. The velcro closures make them easy to put on and take off. We put them on at dinner every night, and remove them at breakfast. She seems very comfortable wearing them, and the sores healed quickly. Even though she sometimes goes down for a roll during the day without the boots, the sores have not recurred.
Dislikes: Occasionally one twists and ends up sideways on her leg, though this doesn't seem to bother her at all.
Quality: I am very pleased with the quality. Our horses spend most nights outside, and the boots have survived mud, snow, and rain. I clean the insides as needed with a brush or hand washing. The fleece and neoprene still provide good cushioning, and all the closures are intact.
Summary: I would recommend these boots without qualification for any horse with sores on the fetlocks.
