Purchase: I purchased this saddle for $700 used from a natural horsemanship trainer. It is at least 15 years old and was used daily.
Likes: The saddle is very sturdy with thick leather skirting. Despite being a so called pleasure saddle it is strong enough for roping and is what the previous owner used the saddle for. This saddle is very durable and would literally last a lifetime with good care. The shape of the seat allows for proper balance and positioning. It also fits my nearly impossible to fit QH with a table back. I have literally gone through 5 saddles(western and english) before I found this one that fits perfectly.
Dislikes: The stamping is of low quality. I recall making nicer leather change purses in 6th grade leather working class. Seriously.
This is no McCall saddle, but then again it didn't have a McCall price tag either. It is an excellent usin' saddle, but not suitable for the show ring or keeping up with the Jones'.
Also, it is crazy heavy. I have decided to start an upper body workout routine just to be able to lift the darn thing onto my horse's back. A 5'2" woman tossing a ~50 pound saddle onto a 14.3 horse's back isn't easy.
Quality: Very, very sturdy and well constructed. It just isn't very pretty with its low quality stamping.
Summary: Excellent sturdy saddle with proper balance, fit and positioning for both horse and rider. It looks nice as long as you don't opt for any tooling or stamping or you look at it while squinting really hard. Despite the low artistic value, I still highly recommend this saddle.
