Vienna II Dressage Saddle
Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Thornhill
Model: Vienna II Dressage Saddle
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: Got this saddle lightly used online for $750. I was looking for something that would resemble the Passier design I like in so many of my friends saddles, but at a price a college student could afford. I did LOTS of research on how these saddles are made and how they designed their trees. I was willing to allow for cheaper materials and leather but I still wanted a balanced and correct saddle.

Likes: The saddle is correctly made so you can feel your horses back and transmit small aids. The flaps are sufficient but not too long or short. It really is just as comfortable and balanced as the passiers!

Dislikes: The stitching around the back of the cantle is a little loose in a few places, and the roll of leather fitted to the back of the cantle where the leather is "gathered" is able to be pulled away a little. I am not sure if this is due to the previous owner's care or the actual quality of the saddle. The metal label under the skirt has worn away faster than expected- but not one can tell. Otherwise it is a very well made saddle with the quality of leather surpassing what I was expecting. Note: I think these run a little small in the seat. I settled for an 18" but thankfully it fits just like a 17.5"

Quality: I really lucked out on this saddle. The leather is soft and durable, the saddle is very balanced and the spring tree fits every horse it put it on. It is soft and comfortable but made correctly so that I can feel my horse's back. There is not extra bulk that you get with the cheaper saddles trying to make up for poor construction with extra padding.

Summary: If you want a Passier but can't afford one, this is the saddle for you.
