Purchase: I'm special-ordering this saddle through a Smith-Worthington dealer and having it custom-fitted to my horse. I needed a nice, high-quality saddle to fit my high-withered Thoroughbred gelding. The cost is approximately $3,000.00, not including fittings.
Likes: Wow, where do I start?!?! This is the most comfortable saddle I've ever had the pleasure of sitting in! The leather is very high-quality, and the seat is slightly padded for the rider's comfort. The seat is deep enough to provide plenty of security, but shallow enough to allow you to easily get up into two-point while jumping. Also, Smith-Worthington is willing to completely customize all of their saddles to fit both horse and rider, and encourages you to buy through one of their authorized dealers/saddle fitters to get the best possible fit. And the saddle is absolutely gorgeous. It has fancy stitching around the stirrup leather slot, and the color of the leather is "antique" (which is a dark reddish brown color that looks awesome on my chestnut TB gelding). You can also order matching fittings and a matching bridle (which I have ordered and will probably be reviewing on this site when I receive them). I borrowed a demo from my saddle fitter and fell in love! I just ordered mine, and it should be here in eight to ten weeks. (Smith-Worthington is custom making it to fit my horse.) I have ridden in the demo several times, and I can't find a single thing to complain about. My husband even likes it, and he's even pickier than I am!
Dislikes: Absolutely nothing! This is a VERY high-quality saddle. I would recommend getting it without knee/thigh blocks though ~ Smith-Worthington's blocks tend to be a little big. Again, the saddle can be fully customized to the needs/preferences of both horse and rider, so ordering it with or without blocks is no problem.
Quality: The craftsmanship on this saddle is absolutely outstanding. The stitching is very tight and the leather is extremely high quality. Also, although I have found many close-contact saddles to be somewhat uncomfortable (especially on long rides), I cannot stress enough how comfortable this thing is! You could seriously go to sleep in this saddle! LOL!
Summary: I did a very extensive search for the right saddle to fit my horse and me, and really did my homework on this purchase. I wanted a high-quality saddle that would last us for years and years to come, so I really took my time and tried many different brands/models (including the PJ Original, Beval Butet, Black Country Quantum, etc.). This is THE ONE!!! I would absolutely recommend this saddle to anyone who is serious about the comfort of their horse AND their own comfort! :o)
