Purchase: I bought this saddle on ebay for $1000 used. I was looking for a good all-purpose saddle and I had long admired the design of the Lynn McKenzies. Living in Hawaii, there is a real difficulty in buying saddles as you cannot try them out as the cost of shipping is so high.
Likes: It was a really eye catching saddle that everybody oohed and aahed over. It was well made and showed only minor signs of wear, mostly on the suede seat. The 3-way rigging idea was neat, but I found that I really wouldn't use the different slots. The seat was very comfortable and deep with a narrow pocket which was nice for me as I am a slender and petite rider.
Dislikes: The regular tree size in the Lynn McKenzie is, in my opinion, made to fit the more slender backed type running horse rather than anything with a wider or stockier build. I found that the gullet was too narrow for my QH- although he has a good set of withers, the saddle didn't really sit down on him the way I would like. Although the narrow seat was nice for me, it wasn't nice for him. I have since sold this saddle and have bought two other saddles that fit him and my mare better- a Carl Ammerman and an older Marlene Eddleman saddle.
Quality: Well constructed with good quality leather and nice tooling. This saddle had basketweave tooling and a black suede seat with leopard print inlay. The Lynn McKenzies are very flashy and unique looking, but I think that the Ammerman and the Eddleman (by Circle Y) are both better made.
Summary: I'm glad that I bought this saddle used as the new ones are very expensive and I would have been disappointed if I had spent $2000 or more. There is a wide tree available now, but I wouldn't risk trying it at this point. One thing that made this purchase worthwhile is that there are enough people who love this brand that reselling this saddle was easy and I actually got more for it than I spent when I sold it.
