Purchase: I bought this saddle directly from the manufacturer because my 3/4 Arabian was very difficult to fit and was becoming very resistant any time a saddle was on his back. It was so extreme that he would refuse to canter with a saddle on his back, but would be free, forward and willing bareback. I purchased the saddle over the phone and I paid $2195 for the saddle.
Likes: I love how close you are to the horse in this saddle and how free my horse is to move. It is very much like riding bareback with the added security of stirrups and knee rolls. I also love that I have been able to use it successfully on a number of horses. It is very comfortable, especially when spending long hours in the saddle. The staff at Ansur is also very helpful in choosing the proper size saddle and explaining the features of each saddle. For the most part the saddle is very secure, I have jumped in it, ridden spooky horses, and galloped on trails comfortably.
Dislikes: It can be difficult to fit properly on horses with very high withers. Also, it does tend to slide a little on very round or wiggly horses which then causes you to stop working to readjust yourself. I have found that using a thinline pad greatly reduces any slipping.
Quality: The saddle is well constructed, I have owned mine for more than 5 years and it has worn wonderfully. The padding is all still in excellent shape and it shows only normal wear from stirrup leathers and on the billets. The suede has held up as well as the smooth leather, I simply brush it occasionally.
Summary: The Ansur Chic is a great saddle. It rides well and is comfortable for both horse and rider. Most horses are more relaxed, willing, and responsive to the seat when ridden in this saddle.
