Purchase: I heard great reviews from other trainers about the Schleese brand, and decided to try one for myself. I checked them out in saddle shops first, then made the purchase through ebay for $1400. Much less than the estimated cost Jochen appraised the saddle for!
Likes: This saddle is wonderful! It has wonderfully soft leather, keeps you in a natural dressage position, without holding you. The flair panels instantly transformed my horse's gait and relaxed his back- I will never go back to wool! The rep's through the office in Canada and in our area are quick to respond and easy to work with. It's also is a real treat to have Jochen fit you, not only do you learn a lot, but he may even give you a "mini" lesson! Horse girls flock! ;)
Dislikes: Even with the adjustable tree, this saddle wasn't able to fit my other riding horse- so I need to by yet another saddle for her difficult to fit back. Also, if another saddler works on your Schleese that isn't certified by Schleese, the saddle's warranty is obsolete.
Quality: The Schleese brand is all about craftsmanship. Every part of the saddle looks as if it were made my a master saddler- maybe because it was! The saddles are well constructed, well stitched, and well padded. Attention is paid in the details.
Summary: I would highly recommend the splurge- your horse will thank you. This saddle really helped my horse, it was noticeable as soon as it was fitted to his back, much softer to my hands, relaxed in his back, and over all much lighter. I've never felt him ride like this prior to this saddle.
I love this saddle, and would definitely buy another Schleese. I wish this model would fit my mare, but its an excuse to buy another!
