Purchase: I purchased this bit through Dover Saddlery on sale for $99.90. They regularly go for over $100. I needed a bigger bit for my Oldenburg as he outgrew his 5.5 inch Korsteel bit and needed a 6 inch bit...I had heard good things about Herm Sprenger, and decided to give them a try.
Likes: This bit is VERY nice! My horse likes it A LOT! It stimulates him to salivate like he should and it's design prevents it from "nutcrackering" my horses mouth.
Dislikes: It is quite costly, but worth it if it does the job and the horse likes it.
Quality: It is made out of Aurigan, which is nickel-free and warms up in your horses mouth easily and stimulates salivation (which is desired). It is designed to prevent the nutcracker effect on the roof of your horse's mouth and is comfortable and gentle for them to work in. They have different sizes and you have to pick. It can be quite confusing at first, but I got the 18 mm, which is thickness of the bit, and is medium thickness. They also have 21mm which is the thickest, and 16mm, which is the thinnest and can be more severe if you are NOT experienced enough. The 18mm is pretty thick itself, so I can imagine how thick the 21mm is..VERY THICK!
Summary: I would highly recommend this bit to anyone who wants to upgrade and help their horsey out. This bit is gentle and stimulates salivation, which helps them to respond better to the bit. VERY Comfy bit!
