River Plantation Saddle 2007 model
Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Tucker
Model: River Plantation Saddle 2007 model
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle at a Dealer in Danville, VA for approx $1,500 in August of 2007. My horse is extremely hard to fit and I worked w/ the Tucker Rep - who came to see my horse to select the right saddle and the correct width.
Likes: The saddle is well-made and extremely comfortable for the rider. In fact, I've never ridden a more comfortable saddle. It's attractive and well-designed for trail riding w/ lots of D rings. Tucker has been a good company to work with in terms of response.
Dislikes: Did not fit my horse! I was so disappointed when my horse had serious back problems as a result of using this saddle - even though this saddle was purchased per recommendation of the Tucker Rep. I'm a rider who spends many hours in the saddle and comfort to my horse is of utmost importance. My gelding developed long white marks behind his withers. This was probably due to the fact that his shoulders are wide, but his back is medium. The saddle recommended to me was a wide BUT proved to be too wide for my gelding's back. It slid terribly when going downhill as well. As I said, my horse is extremely difficult to fit, but I've found that this saddle fits none of my other horses either.
Quality: Well made, attractive, though I noticed that the black color has worn noticeably off the flaps even though the saddle was ridden only a handful of times. Probably an average of 6 hrs per ride. Otherwise, quality is good. LOVE the seat - it's the ultimate in rider comfort!
Summary: I won't buy another Tucker as I've had fitting problems w/ several of them. They're a lovely saddle and hold up well but apparently you have to have a certain shape horse in order for it to fit well! I don't have one of those horses! I've ended up riding trails in an Otto Schumacher dressage saddle and my horse is having absolutely no back problems now - the white areas have cleared up completely!
