Purchase: I got this at a horse show from a small tack dealer selling it on consignment. I had been wanting one forever and managed to get this one for $400. An "old timer" was selling it, he didn't like the feel of it and he mainly trained young horses.
Likes: I love this saddle. I'm an english rider turned trail rider. I didn't want a 50 lb saddle. This weighs more than an english saddle. (25lbs vs. 15lbs)
It is well made, it is comfortable. My TB/TW cross who was growing went from too thin for my Abetta to too thick in one year. He was miserable and bucking. I got the Bob Marshall and gave him his "last chance" weekend camp out. He passed easily, no more bucking. It has a suede seat that catches me when he does something unexpected.
My horses are big, so I have not had any trouble with the girth. I am sooo happy I do not have to find a bigger girth. One horse is 16.3 hh 1200lbs and the other is 15.2 hh, 1300 lbs
Dislikes: On my fat boy, it does nothing to minimize his width, but I ride a bit more like I am sitting in a chair with my knees forward a little and turned out a bit.
Quality: After being left in a barn and getting very dusty, being ridden in for 6 years and being rolled in once. The only damage to it is a small stain on the seat that it came with and during the shaking after the rolling, one of the stirrup pads came off and I had to glue it back on.
Summary: Worth the money. That is why they sell used for the same price as new.
It is like trail riding on the couch. No saddle sore legs, because there are no pressure points on your legs.
The only ones it may not be good for are, very skinny horses where it would put too much pressure on the spine, nervous riders, and young nervous horses.
