Purchase: I wanted a unique saddle that was not like everyone elses. So I began to look for a custom saddle I could afford and stumbled across Guffey Saddlery. For my design I was quoted prices ranging from 2000 to 5000 by other saddle makers with lead times ranging from 6 weeks to 18 months to make the saddle. Guffey made the saddle in 4 weeks. I paid 995.00 which is a great price. This saddle was bought through a local tack store that sent the info to Guffey for me but I was told that if I had called them myself I could have paid as little as 695.00 depending on the details of the saddle. This saddle is what I would call semi custom, because I did not send my horses measurements in to the saddle maker like you do with some full custom saddle makers.

Likes: What I liked most was that Guffey made the saddle to my specifications. I sent them a drawing. I was also able to specify tooling amount, tooling location, silver location. I was able to specify the type of silver I wanted. Color of the saddle, type of saddle, saddle size, seat size, type of seat I wanted. Stirrup style and size. Basically everything I wanted they were able and willing to do for me. So I like almost everything about the saddle.

Dislikes: The only thing I don't like about the saddle is that I should have chosen a wider stirrup fenders more like a pleasure saddle, because I prefer that look but that is not detrimental to the quality or function of this saddle. I would have liked real sheepskin on the underside too but I never asked about that.

Quality: The saddle is all leather hand tooled and hand made with a wood tree. No cheap laminated leather over paper. Beautiful well done tooling, and quality dye that does not bleed like some lesser quality saddles. Stitching is solid and well done.

Summary: Semi Custom, Hand tooled hand made in the USA can't get much better than that.
