Purchase: I purchased the spurs from SmartPak Equine for $29.95 and flat rate shipping of $6.95. I chose these roller-ball spurs because I have a thin-skinned mare who always gets a bare spot on her right side (stronger leg) in the winter and I was frustrated by that. I chose to get the Impuls brand, because I believe they originated the technology and I didn't want any glitches.
Likes: I love these spurs. My horse is very responsive to them, but they don't irritate her at all. Despite riding her 5 - 6 days a week and doing a lot of leg yielding, canter departures etc. she does not have one mark on her side. Her hair is coming in beautifully and I have not sacrificed one iota of communication with these spurs. We are both happy.
Dislikes: The only thing I don't like about them is that occasionally they squeak or rattle, but it is a subtle sound mostly noticeable only to me....it is a small price to pay for their effectiveness overall.
Quality: Very well constructed stainless steel and hard plastic half-ball pieces on a small shaft which allows them to rotate freely.
Summary: I love the product and would highly recommend without reservation to anyone with a thin-skinned horse, an unstable leg or a desire to communicate with your horse without concerns about causing discomfort inadvertently. The shipping from SmartPak from Massachusetts to New York only took 2 days. They are a fine company to work with.
