Purchase: Recently having purchased a young Arab cross horse I quickly realized I needed toys to keep him busy. I purchased and tried several treat type toys in the market, but so far I am not impressed as most don't last past a day or two and other are destroyed too quickly. I am purchasing the Snak-A-Ball Horse Treat Toy as I have seen horses at play with this ball and am impressed thus far. I am entering an order for this ball thru the internet as this is the only place I can find it.
Likes: This ball seems to be built better than other balls or treat toys. Having watched horses got at this type of ball it seems it would achieve my goal of entertaining and keep my young horse 'busy' and away from destroying fences and getting himself into trouble due to boredom. It seems to be built very well to handle the roughness of a young horse. I had purchased the jolly ball and within a day, my horse had placed the handle in his mouth and one foot on the ball as I watched him tear the ball into pieces...again this is a young horse!
Dislikes: There are two things that I'm not so thrilled about with this ball. First, because it's perfectly round, it rolls, therefore it can roll out of his pen very easily. I could potentially prep the ball with treats in the morning thinking he's got something to do all day only to discover that within 5 minutes or so of giving him the ball, it rolled out of the pen to where he had no access to it..this is a waste. Secondly, when the treats are dropped from the ball they fall onto the ground creating the situation of consuming dirt and sand along with the treat on a consistent basis...I have heard some folks blame this system for their horse's colic...hmmmm makes one think a bit about it....could there be connection? The possibility is always there.
Quality: Again this ball is constructed with durable plastic and seems to be tough enough for destructive horses...we'll see.
Summary: Since I've tried other treat toys with dissatisfaction I feel this one is worth a try even at it's cost. Only trying it will confirm whether the cost was justified...I thought the same thing about the jolly balls at first.
