Wintec
500 Synthetic All-Purpose Saddle (CAIR)
All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Wintec
Model: 500 Synthetic All-Purpose Saddle (CAIR)
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: I paid $350 for my saddle, but they generally run about $600. I bought it because as much as I love bareback riding, I needed to put my horse to use. I was looking for a saddle I could jump in, do basic dressage, and trail ride in. I also needed something durable. After much research, I settled on the black saddle in the consignment area of my local tack store. I heard Wintec was a durable brand and good for "new" riders.
Likes: I like many qualities of this saddle. First of all, it is comfortable. The seat is well cushioned. Secondly, I ride in the rain without a care of what it is doing to my saddle. Matter of fact, rain cleans it! In order to clean it, all I have to do is run a hose of sponge over it. No conditioning, oiling, or soap. Thirdly, I am able to do a number of disciplines with it. And, it is hard to ruin! Trust me, I'm a little rough with my stuff. I was also able to change the gullet size to fit my horse, which was great. It can fit a wide range of horses.
Dislikes: For starting out, the saddle is great. And for kids, who will out grow it in a few years, it is perfect. However, after the first year, when you decide to stick with a certain riding style, you need a specific saddle. It is too general for dressage and jumping. Also, if you have leather tall boots, the plastic rubs against them and makes a very distracting sound when you ride.
Quality: The saddle has air panels. They are made of PVC bags, so they are durable. The skin is made of plastic and there are suede knee rolls. The appearance is obvious and in no way resembles leather. The saddle is durable and easily maintained. The saddle has an adjustable gullet system that allows the saddle to fit many horses.
Summary: Over all, I think this saddle is great for "new riders", people who just ride for fun, and kids. I don't regret purchasing it because I feel it still with held its worth. However, now I am looking to buy a dressage and jumping saddle.
