Purchase: I purchased this saddle pad at the recommendation of a trainer. I had been riding with a thick and built-up saddle pad to compensate for a saddle that didn't fit my horse.
Likes: Wow! What a difference the Supracor saddle pad made! I could actually feel what my horse was doing. My balance also improved immensely since I was sitting lower in the saddle & no longer felt perched on top on my horse.
I like that thee are zippered compartments so you can take out the Supracor inserts to wash the pad. You can also use these zippered areas to adjust for a different horse and/or saddle. (For example, you unzip the sides & can insert felt pads to accommodate higher withers or wider saddle.)
I love that the saddle pad is thin, but still has a lot of cushioning. My horse seems to like it a lot too.
Dislikes: The only thing I didn't like was the price ($325 & that was about 4-5 years ago). But the quality is well worth it!
Quality: The construction and quality can't be beat! The honeycomb inserts don't get compressed down over time. On average I've ridden about 3 times a week since I got the pad and it's held up perfectly. The pad is still cushy after several years.
Summary: I never knew that riding Western with the right pad could give you a "close contact" feel. The Supracor saddle pad made a huge improvement in my riding and, more importantly, my horse's comfort! The price is steep but it's really worth it.
