Purchase: I purchased the saddle on consignment at a local tack shop. I was looking for a saddle that was comfortable for me and my horse, good quality, and able to be used for Hunter shows as well as hacking around. I couldn't afford to buy a brand new saddle that would meet my expectations, so I went the used route. (Which was nice because it was very well taken care of and was nicely oiled!)
Likes: Very nice feeling leather. SOFT AND SUPPLE. The knee rolls are as soft as my pillow I sleep on! I like that the saddle has a sticky feel to it (well oiled) that I was looking for without staining my breeches. Has removable easy change gullet system to customize the fit to your horse. I also like the adjustable knee blocks. This saddle really customizes to the horse and rider. I have gotten compliments from my instructor on how much better I am riding now that I have this new saddle.
Dislikes: It didn't come with leathers so I had to purchase those new separately. I LOVE the leathers as well but they aren't as dark as my saddle yet because they haven't been oiled as much so they haven't darkened.
I also was disappointed that Bates doesn't make a bridle to go with it.
Quality: So far I can't find anything wrong with it, and I do not know how old the saddle is, but I could tell it had been used, but taken care of, so I think it will last a very long time!
Summary: WONDERFUL saddle!!! Worth the money whether you buy it new or gently used.
