Purchase: I purchased this saddle used at a retailer in my area for $500.00.
Likes: The saddle caught my eye well before the price did. Though it was used, the leather has held its color (which tends to fade to a greyish color on other Stubbens I've seen). The Romanus allows for a closer contact than other dressage saddles I've used. The padding works very well for me, I like the additional padding at the point where the leather buckles would normally cause an awkward looking bulge. It fits my average sized 15 hd mare VERY well. The styling is exceptional, I like the two tone construction. If you are into solid black below and above - wrong saddle for you.
Dislikes: I felt that at first the pitch was different and when I applied more leg I felt like I was being lifted off my seat.
I soon corrected this with a simple lowering of the leathers (duh!).
If there is anything negative it would be as trivial as mentioning that the leather seems noisy, nothing a few doses of lederbaslm won't fix.
Quality: Exceptional quality and the look is fantastic, but subjective of course. I like the lines that run across the top. I always stare for a few seconds after I clean it - anyone else do that?
Summary: Wunderbar!!! The Romanus is the nicest saddle I have come in contact with.
