Purchase: I bought these from Smartpakequine.com for $74. Their standard shipping rate for all orders (any size) is $6.95. I bought them in black and they are true to size. I bought the standard length and the extended knee patch version (they also come in a full seat version). They have clarino knee patches. I am 5'4" & the regular length is just right for me to wear with boots in the saddle. (They just skim the ground if I am walking.)
Likes: I love the comfort of these pants. They are like yoga pants for riding. The waistband is wide and in front, sits just below the belly button. In back, they are higher cut, so when sitting in the saddle, they do not ride low. They are made of microcord fabric, which is very slimming and holds its shape. They are long enough (and boot cut wide enough) to wear over my pull-on ropers. They don't have a zipper or any pockets, so it creates a smooth silhouette. The wide waistband doesn't roll at all.
Dislikes: I didn't like the price. At $74-$79, it is hard to buy more than one pair! It isn't that they aren't worth it; I am not familiar with the pricing of English riding breeches, so it may be that this is standard for what I bought-- but I really wish they were more affordable.
When I first got in the saddle, it took a few minutes to get used to how the microcord feels against the suede seat I have. A smooth-seat saddle would not have required that adjustment. Still- they did not have too much stick that I couldn't easily follow the canter.
Quality: Construction is very good. The seams are nice and tidy; no loose threads. The knee patches extend from the knee to the ankle and are sewn on very well w/ a finished edge.
Summary: These are a fantastic alternative to jeans for western riders. They are extremely comfortable and seem very durable. They hold their shape better than jeans with stretch (which tend to be stretched out by the end of the day). I recommend them to anyone (English rider or Western) who is looking for very comfortable, fashionable riding pants.
