Stephen Peters Advantage and others
Manufacturer: Custom Saddlery
Model: Stephen Peters Advantage and others
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I ordered this saddle from the Custom Saddlery mobile unit with Cary Wallace (VP of Custom Saddlery) and Deb Deacon (the Colorado, NM rep.) I got the Stephan Peters advantage FULLY custom in buffalo leather for $3,850. Comes with a nice saddle pad, saddle cover, and leather food.
Likes: I have been in saddle fitting hell for 6 months! Someone local recommended Custom Saddlery to me and my only regret is waiting so long to contact them. This was BY FAR the best experience saddle shopping I have ever had.
The Custom Saddlery reps came to my barn, for FREE (no call charge), to meet with ONLY ME, on a week night after work! They showed up with a van FULL of saddles - they make about 10 or 12 different models of dressage saddles. They took tracings of my horse and started trying saddles on for size.
I got to ride in EVERY saddle, FOR AS LONG AS I WANTED TO! It was so nice not to feel rushed and I got to really put my horse though his paces to truly get the feel of what riding the saddle everyday would be like.
Cary Wallace knows his saddles inside and out. We talked at length about what I wanted/needed, how each saddle felt, what I liked and didn't like, etc.
I settled on the 8th saddle I tried, which happens to be the Stephan Peters Advantage. The full custom version isn't cheap at $3850 but I'm THRILLED with the level of service they provide, the quality of the saddle, and the convenience of the entire transaction. They do offer some less expensive options for their saddles as well. The fully custom saddle comes with a 10 day trial period!
Dislikes: I highly recommend Custom Saddlery to anyone who needs a saddle.
Quality: I didn't think I would like the buffalo leather because I have seen other manufacturer's buffalo and didn't care for it at all. This leather is somehow nicer and softer than others I've seen.
It is a beautifully made saddle. My only complaint is there is only a "slit" in the flap for the stirrup leather keeper. I'd prefer a more traditional "loop".
Summary: If you need a saddle, call the Custom Saddlery people!
