Purchase: I purchased this saddle from an online tack store for $575.10, regular price. I needed something to fit my broadbacked, mutton-withered Arabian who was VERY hard to fit in general.
Likes: I like how comfortable this saddle is. The twist is NOT wide even so the saddle itself is, which makes it easier on the rider. It also has a GENEROUS amount of space between the saddle chamber or panels to allow clearance for BROAD spines ;) I notice most saddles don't have this feature, and thus, it causes PAIN AND DISCOMFORT for the horse.
Dislikes: I don't like the fact that the website I ordered it from said that the Wintec Wide AP was compatible with the Regular Red Wide Wintec gullet...which I needed for my Oldenburg, who had wide withers and a BROAD spine, and then when I tried it the first time, the screw anchor popped off of the saddle and the Red Wide gullet didn't fit at all...it was TOO NARROW for this saddle. So I was VERY disappointed! The screw anchor was held by a cheap staple that came off easily and that was the first time I'd ever seen such POOR QUALITY from Wintec.
Quality: The saddle comes in Black or Brown. It has the CAIR Panels to alleviate pressure and pain from your horse's back. It comes with 3 Ultra Wide gullets that fit into the saddle...XX, XXX, and XXXX Wide. My Arab fit into the first one nicely. Like I said earlier, the quality of what held the screw anchor wasn't good...a chinsy staple. The Red Wide Normal gullet DOES NOT fit like the website said, so DO NOT attempt it if you think it will work!
Summary: This saddle is good for those of you who are looking for a saddle to fit a BROAD, MUTTON WITHERED, HARD-TO-FIT horse...for example, drafts and Arabs....But if they do have regular sized withers, meaning they require the regular gullets that come with the other saddles....you're outta luck :( I DO NOT understand why saddleries don't make a Medium or Wide saddle with ample SPINE CLEARANCE. The front is usually sufficient, and then when you get to the back between the panels, the darn channel is WAY TOO NARROW for a horse! It makes me sick! So...take a look at the channel between the panels on your saddle...you may find that it is PINCHING your horse's spine or sitting on it uncomfortably!!!
