Purchase: I bought a used Stubben Tristan on eBay for $350 because I was looking for my first dressage saddle and wanted something with a close contact feel, plus balance.
Likes: I knew from the first posting step that this was a wonderful saddle and fit my needs to a T. It gave me security and balance and didn't make me feel like I was "stuffed" into the saddle.
Dislikes: That it wasn't taken better care of. This was an older saddle (identified by the BRASS nail heads, not the blue ones), and even though it was still in ridable condition, the stitching was coming loose on the "gussets" and the martingale holders were almost ready to fall out, and someone had tacked some of the leather to the tree! I was able to find an older, barely-used saddle of almost identical quality later, and I am now coveting it!
Quality: Top notch! The older Stubben Tristans were built to last. One I have is 30+ years old and will easily go another 30 years. Look for the older Tristans. They are the best!
Summary: I haven't tried any of the newer models, but I can hardily recommend the older Tristans for anyone looking for a really good saddle to do ANYTHING in, including dressage.
