Model: Black Western 17"
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle about 4 years ago off ebay for $400 plus shipping. I really wanted a western saddle in black and this one was one I could afford at the time.
Likes: What I liked was that it was quality made. The tree was solid and it was very comfortable to ride in. I was training a horse and he reared and fell backwards on me and the saddle was still sound. (Had it checked be a saddle maker). Liked that it was synthetic as I only rode outside and I lived in a humid area so I wasn't worried about the leather cracking or oiling it. I rode it in winter through the trees and didn't have to worry about snow falling on the saddle and ruining the finish.
Dislikes: It was synthetic and now I really want something that is leather and a bit more hardy and classic. It also didn't fit any horse I used it on and spend hundreds of dollars buying pads to help it fit. Finally found one that helped but it still wasn't 100% and in my opinion I was the saddle to fit like a glove. The stirrups never did turn out so it put a lot of pressure on my ankles if I rode for a long period of time, especially at shows.
Quality: The saddle still looks new to this day; no marks, scuffs, or tears and I used this saddle at least 5 days a week since I bought it. It is very light so it was easy to toss on a bigger horse or to lighten the load on a smaller pony. Great look and a comfortable to sit in. The stirrups were kind of uncomfortable for long rides.
Summary: This saddle worked perfectly for my budget and what I needed it for. I would never had sold it if it fit my new horse. (and me since I bought a size too big). I would recommend it to someone looking for a low maintenance saddle for every day use or for trail riding. I even used this saddle for my coaching exam and for local shows.
Usefulness Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
