Manufacturer: Steve Edwards at Queen Valley Mule Ranch
Model: Lite Rider
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought the Lite Rider from Steve several years ago because 1. I own a mule and 2. I injured my back and saddling using my big mule saddle was nearly impossible. I paid about 750 for it. I later purchased a britchen and breast collar from another source because it was cheaper and better quality than Steve was currently stocking.
Likes: My saddle is very comfortable for hours on end and has held up very, very well under some difficult riding conditions. I love how light it is. The tapaderos are especially nice in the brush I frequently ride thru and are much warmer in winter. I also like the idea that my foot could not slide thru it and hang up were I to "come off".
Dislikes: It doesn't fit my mule as well as I would like but then she is not the "classic" mule shape. I move the saddle a little further back than "normal" and she is quite comfortable in it.
Quality: The leather and cordura have both stood up to the rigors of riding in the high desert of Arizona, with our dryness, rugged mountain terrain as well as relatively flat mesas. The cordura shows no wear while the leather is heavily scratched from contact with "cat claw" and mesquite scrub. I've not had any repairs to make.
Summary: Steve is not always easy to work with but he means well and is basically a very honest person. He gets in trouble occasionally because his suppliers are not always providing the quality Steve arranged for and he doesn't check each product when he receives them from his manufacturer. Do write down your agreed upon prices with Steve so that you and he are in complete agreement and you can refer to your notes later on. He really is a nice person just very busy and not well organized for a retail business.
