Purchase: I was looking for a schooling pad that wouldn't be too flimsy and flat, like many of the "economy" pads. Purchased on smartpakequine.com for $40.95
Likes: Wonderful saddle pad! This pad is thick enough to be comfortable but not so thick that it provides no "feel" of the horse's back. The pad has a great wither relief cut in front. I have never had any trouble with it bunching up or sliding back. Other pads I've used on my Friesian with high withers will have scrunched back under the saddle half way into a ride. I've been using it for 8 months and have washed it multiple times; it comes out clean and still sturdy every time. The underside of the pad is easy to brush off when dry, and stains don't sink in. Also, it absorbs sweat well-there is moisture on the outside of the pad after a ride, meaning that my horse's back is relatively dry! The billet and girth straps are well placed and actually work. PLUS this pad is pretty! I now own THREE in different colors, and the diamond pattern gets a lot of complements. The white is great for showing, and it has a flattering black/silver trim.
Dislikes: This sounds like an sales add for this pad, but I like everything about it! Excellent for every day and for showing. I did find it for a lower price at doversaddlery.com, however.
Quality: Great quality and construction, no threads have yet to come loose even after being used about 4 times a week for 8 months! There is a guard on the threading where the girth goes, so the nice trim doesn't fray.
The pad comes in four colors: white w/black and silver trim, sage green w/cream, black w/silver and black, and smoke blue w/navy and silver.
The green and blue are both very pretty. The blue isn't available at smartpak.com though. ALSO! doversaddlery.com sells this pad for around $30 and has all four colors!
Summary: Great saddle pad for a LOW price that works well for schooling or showing.
