Purchase: I had been looking at letting my horses go barefoot but had a hard time finding someone I trusted to trim the feet properly. Finally I found a brilliant farrier who not only does the trimming but fits Old Macs Boots to the horse!
Likes: I have a very tender footed Tb who winces walking over the slightest shift in ground, he LOVES his boots. They have made him bolder and happier.
I have them only on his front feet and we are starting - after 3 weeks to put the miles in.
Like us, when we get new tramping boots - you need to start them off slowly and not too far in them.
To my amazement - something I had not expected is how much more sure footed he is over hill country! AND at speed!!
Also I love that we can trot along the road without fear of splints or jarring.
Dislikes: Nothing, I love them.
Quality: Very well constructed, they remain in place when they are fitted correctly which is why it is so good to have a farrier who does this!
After 3 weeks there is a wee bit of wear on the toe but considering the miles of road work we have put in, I'm not surprised.
Summary: I think every horse should try barefoot - using these boots. I am convinced that shoeing a horse is a last resort for hoof health.
