Purchase: I purchased this pad new online for $205 because it would end up being less expensive than other places because there was no tax or shipping. I bought it to help keep my saddle up off my horse's shoulders, and also because she needed a little bit more flocking on the left front area of the saddle and my saddle couldn't accommodate that.
Likes: I love it. We have been using Mattes pads at my barn for years and they have really proven themselves to be excellent. It is flawlessly made and very easy to use and adjust. I put a shim and 1/2 in the left front pocket for my horse and immediately I felt her relax and could feel that she was more comfortable with the pad on.
Dislikes: I rode in one in a friend's saddle and she had a lot of shims in the back of her saddle and the pad regularly slipped. She bought the saddle fix-it thing and it helped a lot.
Quality: Like I said, we have been using Mattes pads for years and have been very hard on them. They get used for horses in a college lesson program and they don't get cleaned or washed as much as they should and I'm sure people are somewhat careless with them and they get used multiple times nearly every day and they are still in flawless condition. They are made very, very well if they endure everything we put them through!
Summary: A great pad to use for horses who are out of shape or changing shape quickly. Also helped my nearly fitting saddle fit perfectly. Overall excellent quality and durability- a great product.
