Manufacturer: Barefoot Treeless Saddles
Model: Barefoot Altanta
Category: Trail Saddles

Purchase: Purchased from Action Line Tack for $829.00. I have a Paso Fino with a short, wide back. He would not hold his gaits (corto and largo) and would break gait into a trot or rack, depending on if I was trying to get him to go slow gait or fast gait. Reading and research revealed that this is caused by poor saddle fit, often the saddle is too tight with pressure points on either the withers or back. I tried several different saddle and pad combinations, but nothing seemed to work to get him comfortable where he would stay in gait. I was reading one day on one of the Paso Fino website forums where a woman with similar problems tried a treeless saddle on her Paso and it solved the problem. I began researching treeless saddles and did so for over a month before deciding to purchase the Barefoot Atlanta. My horse, Shade, will now stay in gait and not break into a trot or pace. He likes to gait and will now do so for long distances, something he would not do before.

Likes: I liked the price compared to other treeless saddles. The leather is a very soft, quality nubuck that is the epitome of flexibility and comfort. It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever put my seat in. The best thing is that Shade is comfortable with no pressure points and shows he is happy by willingly gaiting everywhere. You also get the real feel of how your horse moves and cueing and communication becomes enhanced.

Dislikes: The western fenders do not accommodate a short person ( I am 5' 2"). I had to take them to a saddle maker to be shortened.

Quality: The saddle is very well made, of very soft high quality nubuck leather. There are padded panels on the undersides of the saddle that create support and a channel over the withers that prevents pressure on the spine.

Summary: It worked so well for my Paso that we tried it on my daughter's Arabian. He did so well with it that we have ordered him his own Barefoot Sierra, which is the Atlanta with a horn.
