Purchase: I bought the CorrecTOR saddle pad as a last resort after spending much money trying to find a saddle / pad combination that would fit my Arab. I would never have tried this pad on my own since the ads Len Brown was running in the magazines at that time were pretty hokey, plus the company's web site is a mess. Fortunately for me, however, a friend talked me into borrowing her CorrecTOR pad after hearing me complain about my horse's back problems. After just one ride I was sold on the pad because of the change in my horse's attitude. I paid about $340 for it -- ordering by phone. Len Brown is great to deal with, very personable and professional, he just has strange ideas about advertising and web sites.
Likes: I like that the CorrecTOR keeps my saddle in place on steep hills--no slipping. It sits just a bit over the horse's shoulder but, if I understand correctly, it is designed to let the horse's movement flow under it and that's exactly what it does. My horse quit 'scrunching' when going down slopes. He quit dancing around when I saddle him. His back is never sore now and the white damaged spots are finally going away. The horse is much more comfortable and is now able to round his back and work in balance instead of hollowing away from the saddle.
Dislikes: I like almost everything about the pad although I am a little worried about the fleece lining that holds the CorrecTOR envelope. The fleece seems to be pilling a little bit but I use it hard so I guess some wear is inevitable.
Quality: The pad is very well made and the design of the shims is impressive. I ignored the advice of Mr. Brown about riding with no shims at first to check for balance and then adding one shim at a time as needed. I thought a fraction of an inch of shim couldn't make any difference--but it sure does! Amazingly it's possible to balance the saddle and get just the right feel by adding or taking away one set of shims. They're also very easy to put in and take out.
Summary: My horse has a short back and a lot of movement in his gaits -- he's also extremely sensitive and lets me know when he's not happy about anything. Now he's happy and comfortable with the CorrecTOR so I'm happy too. This pad has solved the problem of the saddle sliding forward and also kept my horse's back comfortable. I am very pleased with the CorrecTOR. I recommend it to all of my friends and would definitely buy it again.
